Puppy Potty Breaks in Raleigh: How to Set Up Midday Visits

New puppy, new routine. Those first months are full of cuddles, chewed shoelaces and a whole lot of trips outside. A midday potty break keeps house training on track and gives your puppy some fresh air. Here's how to figure out how often your puppy needs to go out, which visit fits, and how to set it up with Hooman On Demand in Raleigh and nearby towns.

How Long Can a Puppy Wait?

The American Kennel Club (AKC) shares a common rule of thumb: a puppy can usually hold its bladder for about its age in months plus one hour. By that guide, a 3-month-old puppy can wait about 4 hours and a 4-month-old about 5 hours (AKC). The AKC also notes that very young puppies and toy breeds often need a break every hour when possible, and that many puppies can't reliably control their bladder until they're about 16 weeks old (AKC).

That number is a maximum, not a goal. Puppies usually need to go out after waking up, after meals and water, and after play (AKC). So if you leave at 8 a.m. and get home at 5:30 p.m., even an older puppy is waiting a lot longer than their bladder would like. Every puppy is different, so ask your vet what schedule makes sense for yours.

Which Visit Fits Your Puppy?

Here are our prices starting November 2, 2026. Each extra pet is +$4 per visit.

  • 15 minutes, $24: a quick potty break, fresh water and a little praise, great for young puppies
  • 20 minutes, $27: a potty break plus a short stroll and some playtime
  • 30 minutes, $31: a good fit for older puppies with energy to burn
  • 60 minutes, $45: a full hour for teenage pups who need to wear off the zoomies

On long days, some families book two short visits. Heading out of town? Pet sitting is $93 a day for three 30-minute visits, so your puppy stays home on their usual routine. See everything on our pricing page, and our dog walking cost guide explains what changes the price.

What Happens on a Puppy Visit

Your walker follows the routine you set up, whether that's out to the same potty spot, a treat for going outside, a refill of the water bowl or back in the crate with a chew toy. Every dog walk includes:

  • GPS check-in when your walker arrives and check-out when they leave
  • Photos of your pup during the visit
  • A visit report card covering pee, poop, water, food and a personal note
  • On-leash walking, one household at a time

The report card shows whether your puppy went, which helps during house training. Our background-checked walkers love puppies, accidents and all.

Raleigh Puppy Rules to Know

  • Leash up. In Raleigh, a dog off its owner's property must be under physical restraint, such as a leash. Voice command doesn't count (Raleigh City Code, Sec. 12-3011 and definitions; City of Raleigh). Our walks always stay on leash.
  • Scoop the poop. Raleigh's code also requires picking up after your dog on streets, sidewalks, parks and other public areas (Raleigh City Code, Sec. 12-3011).
  • Rabies shots at four months. North Carolina law requires dogs over four months old to be vaccinated against rabies and kept current (G.S. 130A-185). Your vet can tell you when your puppy's shots are due.
  • Dog parks can wait. City of Raleigh off-leash dog areas require puppies to be at least 4 months old, healthy and properly vaccinated (City of Raleigh dog park rules). When your pup is ready, our Raleigh dog parks guide has ideas.
