How to Book a Dog Walker in Raleigh: Your First Walk, Step by Step

Happy dog on a leash trotting down a leaf-covered, tree-lined walkway on a fall walk in Raleigh

Thinking about booking a dog walker in Raleigh but not sure where to start? Good news: getting from "maybe" to your pup's first walk takes just a few simple steps. Here's exactly how it works with Hooman On Demand, what each walk costs from November 2, 2026, and a few local things worth knowing before you book. Let's get those tails wagging!

Why Now Is a Good Time to Set Up Walks

Daylight saving time ends on Sunday, November 1, 2026, when clocks fall back one hour (NIST). In Raleigh, sunset drops to about 5:18 p.m. that day (timeanddate.com). If you usually walk your dog after work, that walk may soon happen in the dark.

It matters for greenway lovers too. The City of Raleigh lists greenway trail hours as dawn to dusk (City of Raleigh). A midday walk keeps your pup's daylight sniff time on the calendar, even when your workday runs long.

Step 1: Create Your Account

Fill out the new client form with a few details about you and your pets. Then watch your inbox: we'll email you a link to activate your account. The meet & greet is on us.

Step 2: Download the Hooman On Demand App

Once your account is active, download the Hooman On Demand app for iPhone or Android and log in. That's where you'll request your meet & greet and your visits. Curious what it looks like? See how the app works.

Step 3: Book Your Free Meet & Greet

Every new client gets a free meet & greet. A walker comes to your home, with no cost and no commitment. It's a chance for your pup to sniff out their new walking buddy, and for you to go over:

  • Your dog's routine, leash habits and favorite (or least favorite) things
  • How your walker will get in, such as a lockbox, a keyless entry code or apartment access through your leasing office
  • Food, water and treat rules
  • Any questions you have

Step 4: Pick the Right Walk Length

Here are our prices starting November 2, 2026. Each extra pet is +$4 per visit.

  • 15 minutes, $24: potty breaks, young puppies and senior dogs
  • 20 minutes, $27: a quick neighborhood stroll to stretch those legs
  • 30 minutes, $31: a favorite for real exercise and plenty of sniffing
  • 60 minutes, $45: a full hour for high-energy pups

Going out of town? Pet sitting includes three 30-minute visits a day. Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice have a $10 fee. You'll find the full list on our pricing page, and our dog walking cost guide explains what changes the price.

Step 5: Schedule Your Walks

Book a one-time walk or set up recurring weekday walks in the app. When you book, you choose a 2-hour arrival window. Visits run from 7 AM to 9 PM, seven days a week.

Every dog walk includes:

  • GPS check-in when your walker arrives and check-out when they leave
  • Photos of your pup during the visit
  • A visit report card covering pee, poop, water, food and a personal note
  • On-leash walking, one household at a time

Our background-checked walkers love dogs, so they get it when your pup greets them with the zoomies.

Before Your First Walk: A Quick Local Checklist

  • Leash up. Raleigh's leash law says domesticated animals such as dogs and cats can't run unrestrained within city limits (City of Raleigh). On city greenways, leashes can be no longer than 6 feet, and owners must pick up pet waste (City of Raleigh).
  • Check that rabies tag. North Carolina law requires dogs, cats and ferrets to be vaccinated against rabies by four months of age, and the shots must be kept current (G.S. 130A-185; NC DPH). Not sure when your dog's booster is due? Call your vet.
  • Leave the gear out. Put the leash, poop bags and any treats where your walker can find them easily.
  • Tell us about quirks. Squirrel chaser? Scared of skateboards? Share it at the meet & greet.
