Dog Walker in MacGregor Downs, Cary: Short Visits for Senior Dogs and Easy Entry

Black and white spaniel puppy lying beside a water bowl

Some dogs don't need an hour. They need a slow lap of the block, a drink of water and someone to say hello at lunchtime. That is often true for older dogs, and it is the kind of visit we plan for in MacGregor Downs and the neighborhoods around it.

Hooman on Demand offers dog walks and drop-ins from 7 AM to 9 PM, seven days a week. Neighborhood in focus: MacGregor Downs in Cary. If you're unsure about your address, enter it on the sign-up form and we'll confirm coverage.

Short visits for senior dogs

Aging joints change the plan. A shorter visit often works better than a long one, and we can build the day around what your dog can comfortably do:

  • 15 minutes is a potty break plus a little play if you have a fenced yard.
  • 20 minutes is an unhurried walk on leash, with time to sniff.
  • 30 minutes suits a dog who still loves a longer stroll.

Tell us about stairs, slippery floors, medications, hearing and eyesight at the meet & greet. A walker who knows your dog needs extra care on the porch step can plan for it.

A midday break

If you commute or work a long shift, a midday visit splits the wait in two. Your dog gets out, drinks, stretches and hears a friendly voice. On weekends, the greenways below make an easy outing at your dog's own pace.

Walk or drop-in?

A walk means your dog goes out on leash with the walker. A drop-in is the 15-minute visit with fenced-yard play, which can be easier on a dog who prefers to stay close to home.

Either way, the visit is just for your household, and it comes with GPS tracking, photos and a report card.

Parks and greenways for your own outings

Two Town of Cary greenways are good places to try with your dog:

  • Annie Jones Greenway is 1.2 miles of paved trail through woods, in two branches. Annie L. Jones Park, at 1414 Tarbert Drive, has the trailhead parking, restrooms and a playground. The Town's page mentions a bridge repair on the trail, so check its alerts before you go, and bring water for your dog.
  • Swift Creek Greenway is 1.2 miles of recycled-asphalt trail between Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve and Ritter Park, where the main trailhead and parking are. The Town calls it the nation's first greenway built entirely from recycled materials.

The Town of Cary asks for a leash of 6 feet or less on greenways. On trails at Hemlock Bluffs, dogs must be leashed. Animals aren't allowed inside Stevens Nature Center, except service animals and animals used in education programs.

Because Cary needs approval for commercial activity in its parks, we describe these as outings for you and your dog. Our walkers don't use them as routes. At your meet & greet we'll plan the visit around your street.

Getting in

For many visits, entry is simple. Let us know which of these applies:

  • a keypad code on the garage or front door;
  • a lockbox with a key inside;
  • a spare key you hand over in person;
  • an alarm and how it should be set when we leave;
  • a neighbor or relative we can call if something comes up.

Your walker follows those notes at every visit, and the report card tells you how it went.
