Pet Sitter in Durham, NC: In-Home Visits

Going out of town, or just working long days? Your pet can stay home in their own routine while a background-checked Hooman on Demand sitter stops by.
Whether you need a dog sitter, a cat sitter or an in-home pet sitter in Durham, we offer visits for dogs, cats and small pets seven days a week from 7 AM to 9 PM. It's the same service as our pet sitting in Raleigh and Durham, with the Durham details below.
What a sitter does during a visit
Each visit runs 30 minutes, and your sitter works from the routine you give us. A visit can include:
- Feeding and fresh water on your pet's schedule
- Walks, potty breaks and play time
- Medications as directed
- Litter scooping and cage or habitat tidying
- Mail, lights and blinds, if you ask
After every visit, you get photos and a report card. Visits are GPS-tracked, so you can see that the visit happened.
How three visits a day work
In-home pet sitting is three 30-minute visits a day. We schedule them around your pet's normal times for meals, walks and potty breaks. That keeps the day familiar, which helps many pets stay calm while you're away.
A common pattern is one visit in the morning, one midday and one in the evening. Need more? You can add extra visits in the app.
Do you offer overnight stays?
No. Hooman on Demand doesn't offer overnight stays. Your pet has company and care during each visit, and then they rest in their own bed between visits.
That works well for most adult dogs, cats and small pets. If your dog can't be alone between visits, or needs someone in the home through the night, visit-based sitting isn't the right fit. In that case, boarding or an overnight sitter may be better, and we'll tell you so at your meet & greet.
Cats, rabbits and small pets
Not every pet needs a walk. Cats do well with visits at home: food, fresh water, litter and company in a space they know. See our cat sitting page.
We also care for rabbits, birds, ferrets, chickens, ducks and reptiles. We match you with a sitter who has experience with your type of pet. Learn more about exotic and small pet sitting.
Getting into your home
We use whatever works best for you: a lockbox, a keyless entry code, or your apartment's leasing office. We follow your alarm system instructions. Your vet's information stays on file in case of an emergency.
Start with a free meet & greet
Before the first booking, we do a free meet & greet. You, your pet and your sitter go over routines, home access and any questions. It's also a good time to talk through how your pet does when you're out.

A few Durham notes for dog owners
Our sitters walk dogs on leash, never mixed with other households' dogs. Off-leash play is something to do together, once you're back.
Durham Parks and Recreation runs four dog parks: Downtown Durham, the PetSafe Dog Park at Duke Park, Piney Wood and Rock Quarry. Every dog needs a Durham Parks and Recreation dog park tag first, and the tag requires rabies, distemper/parvo and bordetella vaccines plus a negative fecal exam, so start early.
For a long, flat walk, the Durham section of the American Tobacco Trail runs 11 miles on a paved trail. Durham Parks and Recreation asks that pets on the trail be leashed and under control. Duke Forest, which is private land owned by Duke University, requires leashes of 6 feet or less and doesn't allow dogs off-leash.
