Dog Walker in West Raleigh: Sunset Hills, Glenwood and Ridge Road

Two pit bull puppies playing with a toy

If your workday takes you along Glenwood Avenue or Ridge Road, your dog is at home waiting for the other end of it. A midday walk fills that gap.

Hooman on Demand schedules dog walks for homes and apartments in Sunset Hills, Ridgewood, Coley Forest, Glen Eden and the streets around them (ZIPs 27607 and 27612). Walkers are interviewed first and third-party background checked, and each visit ends with photos and a report card in your inbox.

A creek runs through it: greenways and parks for your own outings

Several of West Raleigh's greenways follow creeks. The City of Raleigh publishes the details below. Treat them as your own weekend spots with your dog. Because City park rules require a permit for commercial activity, we don't present them as walker routes, and the visit itself is planned in person with you. For dogs, the City says leashed ones are welcome and waste must be picked up, and on greenways the leash is capped at 6 feet.

House Creek Greenway. This 2.8-mile trail follows House Creek along the I-440 beltline. It links the Crabtree Creek Trail, at Crabtree Valley Mall, with the Reedy Creek Trail at Wade Avenue. The City lists parking at 1510 Glen Eden Drive and at two lots on Blue Ridge Road, and it's open dawn to dusk.

Marshall Memorial Park. Six acres at 3970 Blue Ridge Road, sitting along a third of a mile of the House Creek Greenway. The City describes a granite path through a pergola and woods, leading to a wooden walkway with benches that overlook the creek.

Glen Eden Pilot Park. At 1500 Glen Eden Drive, 20.4 acres with a neighborhood center, a playground and a multipurpose field.

Reedy Creek Trail. Five miles from Umstead State Park to Blue Ridge Road, continuing through the grounds of the North Carolina Museum of Art and the Meredith College campus. The trail itself is a City greenway. The museum and the college have their own rules for their grounds, which we haven't confirmed, so check with them before you assume dogs are welcome beyond the trail.

Windemere Beaver Dam Park. A 14.8-acre park at 1500 Nottingham Road with a field and playgrounds.

Hymettus Woods. A 4.52-acre pocket park at 901 Dixie Trail. The City calls it a tucked-away spot with native plants and a short natural footpath. Budleigh residents can also look at our Hayes Barton and Five Points page.

Getting in: a house key or an apartment door code

West Raleigh has both, and the routine differs.

For a house, tell us whether we're coming in by lockbox, keypad, smart lock or a key you've handed over, and whether there's a gate to latch behind us. For an apartment, we'll ask about the building door, the stairs or elevator, and whether guest codes expire.

In both cases, alarm steps and your vet's contact go into your profile. If your dog is nervous at the door, say so at the meet & greet. We'd rather learn that from you than from the dog.

Matching the visit to the dog

A dog who spends the day alone usually needs one of these:

  • 15 minutes: a potty break, and play in a fenced yard if you have one.
  • 20 minutes: a quick lap for a senior or a young pup.
  • 30 minutes: the standard midday walk.
  • 60 minutes: a long outing for a high-energy dog.

Each walk is leashed and tracked by GPS, with just your household's dog or dogs.

West Raleigh dog walking: common questions

Do you cover 27607 and 27612?

ZIP 27612 is on our service areas page. For 27607, enter your address on the sign-up form and we'll confirm coverage.

I live in Sunset Hills or Ridgewood. Is that inside your area?

Those neighborhood names are not on our ZIP list, so send us your street address. The form will tell us quickly.

Can you walk my dog if I live in an apartment off Glenwood Avenue?

Yes, as long as we can get in. Building access is one of the first things we talk through at the meet & greet.

Is House Creek Greenway good for a weekend walk with my dog?

It's a City greenway with a 6-foot leash rule and dawn-to-dusk hours. Whether it suits your dog depends on the dog. If you'd like a quieter spot, Hymettus Woods is only a short footpath.
